Israeli Army launches large-scale military operation in northern West Bank

On 26 November 2025, the Israeli army announced in a statement the launch of a large-scale military operation in the northern occupied West Bank, focusing on the governorate of Tubas and surrounding towns, local officials report.

According to local sources, Israeli forces deployed large troop reinforcements, bulldozers and even helicopters in what has been described as the most intensive security operation in the area in recent years.

The towns targeted include Tubas, Tammun, Aqaba and surrounding refugee-camp areas such as al‑Far’a. The Israeli army imposed a curfew, erected earth berms and checkpoints sealing off entrances, and carried out house raids, reportedly converting some civilian homes into military positions. Residents have been ordered to vacate, while ambulances and medical movement have been restricted.

Local authorities responded by suspending operations at schools, workplaces and public institutions for the day. An emergency committee was formed to coordinate essential services for affected families.

In a statement, the Israeli military said the operation, carried out with police and intelligence units alongside ground forces, is part of “counter-terrorism” measures aimed at dismantling alleged militant infrastructure in the northern West Bank. It said the operation began overnight early Wednesday.

But Tubas Governor Ahmed al-Asaad rejected claims that the raids targeted wanted militants. He described the operation as a “dangerous escalation” with political motives, not a normal security action.

The operation comes amid a broader wave of Israeli military campaigns in the West Bank since the war in Gaza began in October 2023, involving multiple large-scale raids, displacement and intensified restrictions across occupied territories.
