Lebanese rising star on Barcelona’s radar

Saeed Al-Mala, the 19-year-old winger of Lebanese descent, is rapidly emerging as one of Europe’s most promising young footballers, attracting not only the attention of Germany’s national team but now FC Barcelona as well. According to the Spanish newspaper Sport, the Catalan club is planning to sign the Cologne standout, whose breakout Bundesliga season has put him firmly on the radar of top European scouts.

Born in Krefeld to a Lebanese father and a German mother, Al-Mala has impressed with his speed, confidence, and sharp finishing. Returning with Cologne to the Bundesliga this season, he has already registered four goals and two assists in just 9–10 league appearances, commanding a starting role on the left wing and earning the nickname “the Cologne Gem” in European media.

His rise accelerated during the UEFA Under-19 European Championship, where he helped lead Germany to the semifinals and finished among the top scorers. Those performances convinced national team coach Julian Nagelsmann to call him up to the senior squad for the decisive World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg and Slovakia, a major vote of confidence for the young winger.

Barcelona, meanwhile, is monitoring his development closely. Sport reports that coach Hansi Flick views Al-Mala as a potential long-term asset and suitable reinforcement for the left flank. His current market value stands at €18 million, though Cologne is expected to demand around €30 million to consider a transfer.

As he continues to shine with Cologne and edges closer to his first senior appearances for Germany, Saeed Al-Mala stands on the brink of a remarkable chapter, one that could take him from the Bundesliga to the Camp Nou, all while carrying the pride of his Lebanese heritage onto Europe’s biggest stage.
