Netanyahu to visit White House for fourth time since Trump’s return to office

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will visit the White House on Monday, marking his fourth trip since President Donald Trump returned to office.

The talks are expected to center on Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza and a 21-point U.S. proposal aimed at ending the conflict. The meeting follows Netanyahu’s discussions on Sunday with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, in an effort to narrow differences over a possible ceasefire deal.

Trump expressed optimism on social media, writing:

We have a real chance for Greatness in the Middle East! Everyone is on board for something special, a first of its kind. We will make it happen!

Despite the momentum, neither Hamas nor Israel has officially accepted the proposal. Hamas said it had not yet received the plan. According to the U.S. framework, Hamas would have 48 hours to release all remaining living hostages in exchange for Israel freeing 250 prisoners serving life sentences and 1,700 Gazans detained since October 7. For each hostage’s body returned, Israel would release 15 deceased Palestinians.

The plan also envisions the resumption of humanitarian aid and the start of reconstruction in Gaza, though funding sources and oversight remain unclear. Israel would gradually withdraw from the enclave under the agreement. Netanyahu has faced pressure from far-right members of his coalition to continue the war. While he has not rejected the proposal, he said his team was “working with President Trump’s team … and I hope we can make it a go.”
