UN confirms over 100 civilians killed in Lebanon since ceasefire

The United Nations has confirmed that 103 civilians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon since the November 27, 2024 ceasefire, as near-daily bombardments continue despite international calls for restraint.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has urged an immediate halt to hostilities and full compliance with the ceasefire, warning that the ongoing strikes are having “devastating effects” on civilians and infrastructure across southern Lebanon. The UN also highlighted the scale of displacement, with over 80,000 people in Lebanon and around 30,000 in Israel still unable to return to their homes.
Continued airstrikes despite ceasefire
Despite the truce, Israel continues to conduct almost daily airstrikes, claiming to target Hezbollah members and infrastructure. One of the deadliest recent attacks occurred on September 21 in the southern border town of Bint Jbeil, killing five people including three children.
Nearly a year after the ceasefire, the humanitarian situation on both sides of the border remains dire, with southern Lebanon’s civilians bearing the brunt of the ongoing bombardment.
